- What is NOVMENU:
- ----------------
-
- NOVMENU is a replacement for the NOVELL menu system. It reads the same
- file structure as the NOVELL menu system but NOVMENU is much much
- faster and removes itself 100% from memory when executing commands.
- NOVMENU can also be used on a stand alone computer. The color schemes
- for the NOVMENU are extremely varied (try any numbers up to 127).
- NOVMENU also has complete mouse support.
-
-
- In contrast the NOVELL menu system is slow in reading the menu file
- and redrawing screens. The NOVELL menu system DOES NOT remove itself
- from memory when running a command (uses 13.5k) which is very important
- when running todays programs on a network enviroment. The NOVELL menu
- system is also limited in its color schemes. the NOVELL menu system
- does not work on a stand alone computer and does not have mouse support
-
-
-
- TIPS:
- -----
-
- Because NOVMENU creates batch files (same as the NOVELL menu system) to
- execute a sequence of commands, it is very important that if you wish
- to execute another batch file that you use the DOS "CALL" statement.
-
- eg: capture nb nff nt ti=10 p1
- call fonts.bat
-
- The above example links to a printer in a NOVELL enviroment and then
- "CALLS" a batch file that will download fonts to the printer.
-
-
- If you wish to have a choice on your menu that will not start up the
- menu again, then put an exclamation (!) mark in front of the command.
-
- eg: !LOGOUT
- or
- eg: !PARK
-
- The numbers after menu titles are the ROW and COLUMN placement of your
- menu's and the color.
-
- NOVMENU will automatically place menu's if they are located off the
- screen and will also automatically resize menu's that have more items
- than will fit in the menu window.
-
- If you have more items than can fit in a menu window you will see two
- arrows (up and down) along the right side. These indicate that you can
- scroll up or down to view the rest of the items.
-
-
- KEYBOARD USE:
-
- Navigating through NOVMENU is very simple. To hilite a menu item you
- use the up and down cursor keys. To make a choice from the menu you
- hilite the item and press <ENTER>. To close a submenu you press the
- <ESC> key.
-
-
- MOUSE SUPPORT:
-
- To hilite a menu item you move the MOUSE cursor to the item of your
- choice and press the LEFT mouse button once. To make a choice from
- the menu you move the MOUSE cursor to the desired item and press the
- LEFT mouse button twice very fast. To close a submenu you hilite the
- small rectangular box in the upper right corner of each menu and press
- the LEFT mouse button once. If you have more items than will fit in a
- menu window you hilite the small arrows on the right hand side and
- press the LEFT mouse button.
-
-
- COLORS:
-
- You can use the file 'COLORS.EXE' that is supplied with this program
- to see the color schemes that might best suit your monitor. Just type
- COLORS at the DOS prompt and press <ENTER>. You will see colors that
- your monitor supports and their associated number. Use these numbers
- to determine the colors of your menus.
-
- Note: You DO NOT need the file 'COLORS.EXE' to run NOVEMENU.
-
-
-
- Other than that there isn't much to say. If you currently use the
- NOVELL menu system you will notice the MINOR differences in appearance
- to NOVMENU.
-
- The 'EXAMPLE.MNU' file consists of a sample NOVELL menu system file
- structure. If you have never used the NOVELL menu system before you
- should use this file to give you an idea of how to set up your menu
- file.
-
- To create the menu file you can use any text editor.
-
-
